Alternative Measures was founded in 2002 for the purpose of providing and integrating multidisciplinary holistic care services in Northwest Ohio. We believe that the greatest healing occurs when we take an active role in our own well-being.

It is important to be aware that complimentary and alternative therapies are not substitutes for diagnosis and/or treatment by a doctor, or for the orthodox medication. They may, however, support any form of therapy and the natural healing process.

Sound Healing with Tuning Forks

Hello! We are Joan Gleason and Kris Karr, and our business is Alternative Measures. We are Certified Reiki Master/Teachers in the Usui System of Natural Healing and Certified Level III SomaEnergetics Sound Energy healers, as well as students of homeopathy, aromatherapy, sacred geometry, crystals therapy, herbal supplements, kinesiology and all things metaphysical. We enjoy learning about many modalities and how they relate and interact with other forms of energy work.

In our healing work, we primarily use tuning forks from SomaEnergetics. We find that the tones emitted by the forks help in balancing the body. The forks are tuned to the Solfeggio scale of music; the scale frequencies are UT, RE, MI, FA, SOL and LA. Dr. Hulse, the founder of SomaEnergetics carefully studied and chose this scale due to the healing properties of the frequencies. Each fork works to clear specific issues, such as releasing guilt and fear and speaking our truth. They are also used together, producing additional frequencies which operate on the subtle bodies quite effectively. As all matter is actually energy, the forks use specific vibrations to balance and promote healing for the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Science has shown that these particular frequencies have a profound effect on DNA.

As we practiced with our forks, we found that we could incorporate them into our distance healings and also for energy clearing purposes. We work as a team, one channeling Reiki and the other using tuning forks. We have found that the tones emitted by the forks work on all levels, clearing blockages, bringing additional energy, as well as releasing excess energy. Our clients have cleared past life issues, emotional blockages, socialized belief systems and physical trauma -- the sessions are usually very emotional experiences. As all energy contacts surrounding energy, when we encounter frequencies that we are unable to release, it causes chaos in the bodies. Using tuning forks brings order to the chaos and balances energy. We have used these techniques on many different substances, including food, essential oils, crystals, cars, water, etc., and found them to be helpful in all areas of our lives. When we use the forks on a person in a room full of people, everyone receives the healing frequencies they require, and the energy in the room is changed, as well. We have also used the forks in healing circles raising the vibration of the group’s intentions to heal and balance the planet.

What an experience it is to listen to the sound and frequency of these tuning forks! They stir very deeply in the soul. You become centered and balanced almost immediately – they bring a feeling of "home" to you. In addition to the regular scale, Dr. Hulse has also developed planetary tuning forks and a set of forks with lowered frequencies designed to specifically target the physical body.

This is just a brief introduction to the use of tuning forks as healing tools. For detailed information on the history and discovery of the Solfeggio scale tuning forks, please visit the developer’s website: www.somaenergetics.com. We are always happy to answer any questions from students of the metaphysical and healing arts. Our blessings to you for your highest and best.

Questions & Answers:  Kinesiology 401

By:  Kris Karr

What if you had access to a simple “yes” or “no” answer to any question you wished to ask?  Is this the best herb to rebalance my body?  Is it for my highest and best to take this class/attend this lecture/trust the information this person is telling me?  Is this politician striving for the highest good of his constituents?  Will I earn a good return on this investment?

Imagine the implications …

In Power vs. Force by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., we learn exactly how to obtain the answers to those questions … and SO much more.

Kinesiology is the study of muscles and their movements and was first studied by scientists with regard to which stimuli would cause muscles to weaken.  Studies have been conducted on the body’s response to physical, mental, and emotional stimuli.  The implication is that on a certain level, the body knows what’s good for it; and is designed not to lie.  Chemical sweeteners weaken the body; nutritional supplements strengthen it.  Smiling and saying a cheery “hello” will strengthen your body; hearing or saying “I hate you” weakens it.

Dr. Hawkins has taken this research and expanded it to human consciousness.  The number 1 was assigned to mere physical existence, and the number 1,000 was assigned to advanced states of enlightenment.  This allowed them to generate a practical map of the energy fields of consciousness so as to correlate levels of consciousness with emotions and mental processes.  For example, the level of shame calibrates at 20; and the corresponding emotion and process are humiliation and elimination.  Fear calibrates at 100; and the emotion is anxiety, and the process is withdrawal.  Acceptance calibrates at 350; the emotion is forgiveness, and the process is transcendence.  The level of peace calibrates at 600, and corresponds to the emotion and process of bliss and illumination.

This chart of assigned numbers also corresponds to charkas.  The solar plexus calibrates at 200, heart at 500, and crown at 600.  Books, music, art, and religions have all been calibrated and are outlined in the book, as well.  Each individual also has an overall calibration.  Mother Teresa calibrated at 700.  Jesus and Buddha calibrated at 1000.  The book includes step-by-step instructions to calibrate your own rate of consciousness.

Your spot on the scale is a good indicator of how you respond to situations (external stimulus).  As an example:  Imagine you see a “bum” on a street corner in an upscale neighborhood.

If you view him from a consciousness level of 20 (shame), the bum is seen to be dirty, disgusting,  and disgraceful.  At a consciousness level of 100 (fear), you might view him as a threat (He’s obviously up to no good; I should call the police).  At 310 (willingness), you consider trying to help, either by showing him some compassion or volunteering at a local shelter.  At 400 (reason), you view the person as a symptom of the current economic situation.  At 600 (peace), he is revealed as our own self in a temporary expression.   Amazing … looking at the same experience through the filters of different levels of consciousness.  Do our corresponding emotions block us from seeing each person as a perfect reflection of our Creator and isolate us from unity?

As lightworkers, it is our mission to raise the consciousness of this planet.  By incarnating, we accepted this mission.  To complete it, we must strive to calibrate as high on this consciousness scale as possible.  It doesn’t matter what energy balancing/enhancing technique(s) we use to do it … it is imperative that we work toward raising our own vibration.  Dr. Hawkins illustrates that one individual calibrating at 300 counterbalances 90,000 individuals below 200.  Think about that.  Feel free to be astonished!  If one person is willing to move through and release shame (20), guilt (30), apathy (50), grief (75), fear (100), desire (125), anger (150), pride (175), courage (200), and neutrality (250) to get to the level of willingness (310), he/she can counterbalance the lower energies emitted by over 90,000 people.  Does that get your attention?  Is that person you?

Do we, as a community of lightworkers, have the willingness it takes to release our fear, anger, and pride?  Can we move out of our egos and up to our hearts?  Let’s all retract our claws and stop investing in the habit of complaining and blaming.  Let’s appreciate each other for who we are and be grateful that we are not alone on this mission.  It’s time that we all work together to achieve our common goal.

Peppermint & Lavender – Don’t Leave Home Without Them!

Essential oils are amazing healing tools.  Among them, peppermint and lavender are the most versatile and universal, in that they seem to work for just about everybody.  They are also two of the most economical oils.  It’s very easy to find high quality peppermint and lavender for under $10 each.  If you carry a purse, briefcase, backpack or medicine bag, these need to be tucked inside.  Be sure, though, to keep the peppermint away from homeopathies – it antidotes some.

Peppermint is a great pick-me-up.  Just unscrew the lid and smell!  Essential oils inhaled or diffused in the atmosphere penetrate the brain within six seconds.  Bad breath?  Put a drop or two in a bottle of water, shake, and sip!  Indigestion/diarrhea/gas?  Peppermint applied topically over the stomach and/or bowels can provide instant relief.  (If your skin is sensitive, mix with a little olive oil or hand cream.  Always dilute peppermint for use on children and seniors.)  If you’ve racked up lots of frequent flyer miles, you’ve probably had your share of ear pain.  Grab the peppermint, apply a couple of drops around each ear, and sell some to the rest of the passengers!  Oooh, my aching (insert muscle, joint, body part)!  Peppermint to the rescue!  The warming effect of the oil increases blood flow to promote healing, while the cooling effect is analgesic.  Peppermint applied to the back of the neck has proven effective to combat allergies, as well.

Lavender is super for any condition involving the nervous system and is probably most noted for its effect on anxiety and insomnia.  Diffuse in the air, add to bath water or body lotion, place a few drops on your pillow – just get it into your environment.  We know teachers that just place an open bottle of lavender on their desk to help calm the students.  Insect bites may also be eased by lavender oil applied topically to the wound – works remarkably well for wasp stings!  Lavender is also amazing for teething pain!  Mix a two or three drops of pure essential oil with a tablespoon of olive or almond oil and apply directly to the gums.  You can even put a little on the bottom of each foot to provide all with a good night’s sleep.  Lavender is the only oil that’s safe for use full strength on children – it also fights infections!

Lavender and peppermint together are great for pains of all kinds – even migraines!    Try putting a few drops of each on the temples and back of the neck.  You can also try using these two together on the bottoms of your feet!  Oils applied to the bottom of the feet reach every organ in the body within 20 minutes!  So, if you hurt all over – start with the feet, give it 20 minutes and see how you feel!

Blessings & Light,  Kris & Joan

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes Healing.  It is administered by “laying on of hands” and is based on the premise that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  The word “Reiki” is comprised of two Japanese words – “Rei” which means God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power, and “Ki” which is life force energy.  Therefore, Reiki is spiritually-guided life force energy.  Reiki provides energetic nourishment to both maintain and enhance Healing and Health.  There is neither dogma, nor any tenants of faith in Reiki.  It is a simple, natural, energy balancing technique that anybody can learn to help themselves and others.
